Domain Name on Solana

There are several compelling reasons to acquire a domain name for your Solana wallet. A human-readable name mapped to your SOL wallet eliminates the need to copy and paste a lengthy address for each transaction. It also helps users establish a unique Web3 identity while maintaining privacy. As the blockchain ecosystem continues to mature, Solana domain names are gaining functionality beyond simple payments.

In this article, we’ll explore some domain name service providers within the Solana ecosystem, each offering unique features that support decentralized identity, ownership, and usability across Web3 applications.

Solana Name Service (SNS)

Solana Name Service (SNS) is a leading domain name system on Solana, enabling users to register and manage human-readable .sol domains. As a decentralized naming service, SNS is governed by smart contracts that link domain names to wallet addresses and support reverse resolution.

Formerly known as Bonfida, the service underwent a rebrand in July 2024 to become SNS, reflecting a broader focus on accessibility and decentralized identity management within the Solana ecosystem.

Users can search for available domain names on sns.id and register them directly if unclaimed. If a domain is already taken, it can be acquired through certified resellers or secondary marketplaces. SNS domains are sold via one-time payments, with no recurring renewal fees.

AllDomains

AllDomains offers a flexible and innovative alternative, allowing users to create and manage custom Top-Level Domains (TLDs) directly on-chain. Designed for communities, DAOs, and individuals, it enables the creation of personalized and decentralized domain ecosystems.

In addition to supporting traditional domain formats (beginning with .ID), AllDomains integrates NFT functionality, making domains tradeable and programmable digital assets. It also features multi-chain support, renewable registration options, and flexible payment methods using SOL, USDC, or other tokens.

AllDomains requires domains to be renewed periodically. This approach discourages domain hoarding and helps ensure that desirable names remain accessible.
