Try Solscan MCP for Free: Introducing the Public MCP Server
AI agents are getting good at answering questions about Solana, as long as they can reach real on-chain data. Solscan MCP was built for exactly that: a standard interface that connects Claude, Codex, and other MCP-compatible agents to live, decoded Solana data.
Until now, using it meant a Pro plan. Today we're opening it up with the Solscan Public MCP server: a free way to connect your agent to Solscan, using nothing but a free Level 1 API key. No paid plan and no credit card. Just register a Solscan account and you're in.
What you get
Free network & analytics tools. These cover the network overview and daily, network-wide analytics, and they're fully usable on a Level 1 key.
| Tool | Returns |
|---|---|
| Chain Info | Solana network overview: block height, epoch, slot, transaction count |
| Transaction Analytics | Daily transactions: total / vote / non-vote |
| Compute Units Analytics | Daily compute units consumed |
| Stake Analytics | Daily active stake (SOL + USD) |
| Fees Analytics | Daily transaction fees: base + priority (SOL + USD) |
| Slots Analytics | Blocks / slots produced per day |
| DEX Activity Analytics | Daily DEX/DeFi activity: trade count, trader count, volume USD, active DEX count |
The analytics tools accept a range or a from_date / to_date window, and Transaction Analytics also takes a filter.
Live-demo tools. This is a hands-on sample of core Pro tools. They return the same real on-chain data as their Pro counterparts, under much stricter rate limits and request caps.
| Tool | Returns |
|---|---|
| Account Transfer | SOL / SPL transfer history for an address |
| Account DeFi Activity | Swaps, liquidity, lending for an address |
| Account Transaction Enhanced | Transaction history with server-side filtering |
| Account Portfolio | Token holdings and USD value for an address |
| Token Transfer | Transfer history for a token |
| Token DeFi Activity | DeFi activity for a token |
| Token Meta | Metadata, supply, price, and market data for a token |
| Transaction Decode | Decoded actions for a transaction |
Things to ask your agent
Once it's connected, try prompts like these:
- "How have Solana's daily priority fees trended over the last 30 days?"
- "Show me the portfolio and USD value of this wallet."
- "What DeFi activity has this token seen recently?"
- "Decode this transaction and explain what it did."
Get set up in three steps
- Register a Solscan account to get your free Level 1 API key.
- Add the Public server to your MCP client. For Claude Desktop, drop this into your config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"solscan": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"mcp-remote",
"https://public-mcp.solscan.io/mcp",
"--header",
"token:${SOLSCAN_API_KEY}"
],
"env": {
"SOLSCAN_API_KEY": "YourFreeApiKey"
}
}
}
}
- Restart your client and start asking. Your agent can now call Solscan tools directly.
Endpoint: https://public-mcp.solscan.io/mcp
Good to know
- Free tier, tight limits. A Level 1 key has low rate limits and request caps. That's fine for testing and experimentation, but not for production traffic.
- A sample of Pro tools. The live-demo set is a subset. The full tool set and advanced data live on the Pro server.
- No credit card. Just register a Solscan account to get a Level 1 key.
Ready for production?
When you're ready to build for real, switch to the Pro server at https://mcp.solscan.io/mcp. It has the full tool set, advanced data, and production limits.
Full setup guides for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Codex are in the Solscan MCP docs.
